0601249f82 it is not an error for a statement to return 0 rows. 
Andrey: please run the test suite before each commit!
This broke beta 3 and was clearly visible as a result of running the tests.

Running further tests now.

4f22ac0cdd improve handling of bound input parameters when no maximal length value is set; 
default to 4000 as the maximal length, which is the biggest size possible
without using a LONG type (if you specify anything larger than this, you'll end
up with ORA-1461).

Don't assume that all parameters were output parameters after execution, as
this would clobber the input values when used in a loop.

664ebfa499 expand oracle null handling compatability by offering the ability to convert 
NULLs into empty strings as well as the other way around.  It still doesn't
help a great deal in the long run, but at least the option is there.

Make sure hash tables are nulled out to avoid double freeing them.

31de8e9018 stmt->column_count is set only if the result has been already bound, don't 
rely on that and use the real count which is kept in st_mysql_stmt
#of course using internal values is bad idea but the comment already says
#that this should be fixed

55ab9b75a6 ok, calculate max_length only in case of a blob (normal, medium, long). 
in case of a varchar lets allocate 255 bytes and be quick without asking
libmysql to update max_length

2711d70d33 if the result set is buffered ask libmysql to compute the lengths, so 
later allocate buffer as big as the largest value of the column in the
result set (max_legth positive).

007f571beb for the transactions test case, detect working transactions before attempting to run the tests. 
Additional ugliness required because mysql does stupid stuff like this:

mysql> CREATE TABLE foo (id int) TYPE=innodb;
Query OK, 0 rows affected, 2 warnings (0.00 sec)
mysql> SHOW CREATE TABLE foo;
CREATE TABLE `foo` (
  `id` int(11) default NULL
) ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1

In addition, BEGIN, COMMIT and ROLLBACK all succeed, even when no tables
support transactions.

d3b653e97b Added: 
proto bool PDOStatement::closeCursor()
Closes the cursor, leaving the statement ready for re-execution.

The purpose of the function is to free up the connection to the server so that
other queries may be issued, but leaving the statement in a state that it can
be re-executed.

This is implemented either as an optional driver specific method (allowing for
maximum efficiency), or as the generic PDO fallback if no driver specific
function is installed.

The PDO generic fallback is semantically the same as writing the following code
in your PHP script:

	while ($stmt->fetch())
		;
	if (!$stmt->nextRowset())
		break;
} while (true);

529d8177fe Add early support for native prepared statements in pgsql. 
Note that some tests now fail; if we can't resolve this in time for the beta,
the prepare code should be disabled (I'll add a flag for this later today).

ab1ba644db add a bit of a hack to cater for pgsql prepared statements. 
These are effectively named statements with strong constraints on the naming
format.  We cater for this in a fairly generic way: allow a driver to replace
the format string we use to generate names from positional parameters.  In
addition, if that format is set, we always force a rewrite from regular names
to the strongly enforced names.

49c1882837 Add a PDO_ATTR_STRINGIFY_FETCHES attribute, which is used to convert integer or 
floating point values into strings during fetch.  This is a compatibility hack
for drivers that return native types rather than string representations.

We use this flag in the test suite to persuade postgres tests to pass.

93024bc268 Fix handling of parameter binding. 
We need to guess at parameter sizing in some cases (eg: MS Access) as the
SQLDescribeParam() API is an optional feature.
Tidy up error handling.
Add workaround for a shutdown bug that I see with MS ODBC implementation.
(working to determine the precise cause of this).
PDO core test suite now passes all tests.

d4a158260b Add PDO_FETCH_NAMED; closes PECL #4641 by providing a way to access columns 
by name, even when multiple columns have the same name:

Also added two new attributes for use at prepare time;
PDO_ATTR_FETCH_TABLE_NAMES and PDO_ATTR_FETCH_CATALOG_NAMES instruct the driver

and catalog names respectively.  Both attributes may be used together or
independently.  The catalog, table and column name components should be
separated by a . character.

2b47899981 - Overhauled selecting the correct timezone. The timezone set with 
"date_timezone_set" override the TZ environment variable, which on its turn
  overrides the date.timezone setting. If none of the three is set, we fallback
  to UTC.
- Added "date_timezone_set" function to set the timezone that the date
  functions will use.

SPL is not initialized before PDO, so inheriting from SPL's runtime exception class gives PDO a broken exception class.
We don't currently have a way to express this kind of "soft" dependency in the build system, so I'm disabling inheriting from the runtime exception for now.

711b4e0043 implement the 'request shutdown' hook; this allows us to register UDFs on 
persistent handles safely. (it is dangerous to keep them registered between
requests, as there are 0 guarantees that functions with the same name are even
present on the next hit, let alone that the zvals we cache point to the right
place.

49e7b3da4c Fix a dumb bug that would effecively ignore persistent connections and create a 
new one each time.

Add a hook for persistent connections: it is called when the object goes out of
scope, and offers the driver an opportunity to release per-request scoped data
at the right time.

This hook is used by pdo_sqlite to unregister UDFs, which are dangerous to keep
registered between requests.

if you use va_list args more than once, you can corrupt memory - you
need to use va_copy instead.  man va_copy for details.

Also, derefrencing a void * to a long on 64 bit is totally uncool.

3e6fce84bb - Use a replacement for PQunescapeBytea so that linking against a pre-7.3 
libpq is possible.  This is exactly what ext/pgsql currently does.

73a6a31053 - the driver's key name is not zero terminated, hence we need to either 
estrNcpy() it or use the driver struct.
- table headers do not support single column mode so change to two cols

introduced in PostgreSQL 7.4.

(PHP pg_transaction_status) New function to get in-transaction status of
                            a database connection.

(PHP pg_query_params) New function to allow execution of parameterized
                      queries.

(PHP pg_prepare) New function to allow preparing named queries.

(PHP pg_execute) New function to allow execution of named prepared
                 queries.

(PHP pg_send_query_params) New function that is the async equivalent of
                           pg_query_params.

(PHP pg_send_prepare) New function that is the async equivalent of
                      pg_prepare.

(PHP pg_send_execute) New function that is the async equivalent of
                      pg_execute.

(PHP pg_result_error_field) New function that allows highly detailed
                            error information, most importantly the
                            SQLSTATE error code

# Regression tests are included for all but 2 functions, the rest will

f15c24d44c added an optional third parameter to str_word_count(), which is used as 
a list of characters which are considerd "is_alpha()". Thus V14GR4 can
be extracted as one word if the user supplies "14" as charlist.

at least with sqlite2 driver.

d88b4c734f build pdo statically on win32, so sqlite2 driver will build. 
Alternatively, we could build sqlite as a shared ext, but that has more
of an impact to people upgrading.
